Welcome to this Podcast for Gardeners

Here is the latest episode of the Our Plant Stories podcast.

We always start with someone’s plant story

Plants tell stories. They tell us stories about the people who grew them, the places we find them and the reasons we love them. In Our Plant Stories, gardeners share those stories; from the earliest memories of peonies Lynne wasn’t allowed to touch to the mint plant that reminds Anya of her of home in Kyiv, to some very special plant tattoos honouring Hannah’s mum. The photo above is of Dion’s dad taking care of his Fig tree.

Apple Podcast Review: “Hearing about what plants and nature has meant to people and their families is just the kind of heart-warming content we all need.”

“I’m loving this podcast - such an apparently simple idea of blending personal stories with the story of a particular plant”

Then we have a conversation about that plant

It doesn’t matter whether this is the first time you have come across this plant or it is something you have grown in your garden for years - the horticulturalists, head gardeners and historians in conversation with the story teller ensure we all learn something new from their shared passion for that plant. Hear from Claire Austin who can identify that peony for Lynne and from Jean Levy who holds a national collection of mint and learn the meanings of those flower tattoos. Meanwhile Mary Menniti knows all about the Italian fig trees now growing in America.

Apple Review: “The history of plants, their travels around the world and how many came to the UK is fascinating.”

“It’s the podcast equivalent of having a grandparent or much loved relative pass on their gardening expertise down the generations. It’s unique and wonderful and I’m already hooked.

Finally we learn how to grow the plant

I hope you will be inspired by the stories and the passion of the growers to want to try the plants too. Our horticulturalists, head gardeners and nurserymen will give you all the best tips and make sure we leave Our Plant Stories podcast understanding the plants needs; the right kind of soil, sun or shade. And I always check if you can grow it in a pot since my first garden was a tiny balcony in Liverpool 8 and everything was in pots!

Apple Podcast Review: “Each episode has just the right amount of enthusiastic expert input to set me off on growing plants that are new to me without feeling intimidated. Thank you!”

“The show notes are very digestible and capture the gardening advice in an accessible and memorable way. Here’s to many more plant stories! Thank you.”
